Saugus' Brianna Jauregui picking up the pace in Div. II
When the first set of state individual rankings were released Sept. 9 by Dyestatcal.com, Saugus' Brianna Jauregui wasn't even in the top 10 (see below).

Less than a month later, the senior is No. 2 in the state behind sophomore teammate Kaylin Mahoney, according to Dyestatcal's Doug Speck and Mike Kennedy (see below).

Jauregui won the senior class race Sept. 12 at the season-opening Seaside Invitational, then placed fifth Sept. 20 at the Woodbridge Classic -- Mahoney took fourth -- and followed with second-place finishes behind Mahoney at the Sept. 25 Foothill League meet and Saturday's Staub/Barnes Invitational at Crescenta Valley Park.
