Lincoln Lunch: pizza and salad
(my actual lunch!) In two days I received the same Lincoln Lunch tip from two readers so I figured eating at Ameci Pizza and Pasta in North Hollywood was my destiny. As luck would have it, I had business nearby so I dropped in for an early lunch after toy shopping recently.
The main menu did not have one Lincoln Lunch, what I call a $5 meal because ol' Prez Lincoln is on the fiver, but off to the side was a neon menu with lower-priced specials. A slice of cheese pizza, salad and a soda was $5. Two slices of cheese and a soda was $4.50, and two slices of pepperoni pizza and a soda was $5. Three other options were $6.
I chose the pizza, salad and soda, paid at the counter and tried not to notice when the cashier was surprised that I wanted to eat there. Ameci's is a bare eatery, the kind that...
...caters to pick up and take out orders but tolerates sit-down customers. There are, after all, a handful of tables, but little in the way of atmosphere.
Perhaps I would have felt less conspicuous had I not been the only person munching on pizza at 11:18 am. But about the food.
My slice of cheese was very hot and tasty. Not the best pizza I have ever had, but certainly repeatable. My large salad was comprised of iceberg lettuce, a few shreds of cabbage, three slices of tomato and a lot of dressing. Note to self: next time ask for dressing on the side. My lunch also included a can of soda.
Visit Ameci's at 12450 Burbank Blvd. in North Hollywood. (818) 509-1666. They have many locations in the LA region.
Hmmm...I didn't realize they were so widespread, which basically makes them a chain, which is technically not within the Lincoln Lunch qualifications. Drat. Guess I will make an exception seeing how I've already digested the meal.

Seems they are a chain, and they are all very different in cleanliness and service. Hopefully the one in North Hollywood is cleaner, and service is better in quality. The one just west of Sepulveda is dirty, service is bad, a very loud tv that makes conversation nil, (it didn't matter it was only myself and a friend in the place-red flag), the food was less way less than mediocre, spaghetti pasta was way overcooked and parmesean cheese out of a can, salad was rinsed but not drained. Overall -1 out of four stars. Bad service, bad food can be overlooked, but not when the carpet and tables are dirty.
I was in the North Hollywood location of Ameci's yesterday, and the owner Steve Kakar said that beginning tom'w Friday, all lunches, including pizza, sandwiches, and spaghetti - with drinks included, will be $4.99. And they will also have a special deal of 2 slices of pizza and a soda for only $2.99! Can't really beat that!
Did I read djm correctly? "Bad service, bad food can be overlooked"? I don't think so! Then what are you getting out of it?
I agree! If you get bad service and bad food, why go there at all? ~Julia
