Elimination infuriates Lackey

| | Comments (6) |

The best team didn't win in John Lackey's humble opinion. Not long after the Red Sox won the ALDS with a walk-off victory Monday, Lackey was seething.

"They were better than us last year," Lackey said. "They weren't better than us this year."

And there was this: "It's like I want to throw something through a wall."

And don't even compare this ALDS to last year's.

"It's frustrating," Lackey said. "It's way different than last year. We're a better team than they are."

There are professional sportsmen, guys who give it their all, play the game and are modest winners and gracious losers....
Then there is the Lackey, who epitomizes everything that is wrong about sports. Suggest you grow up and grow a pair you pathetic wannabe. And from us Bostonians to you: "Bye now Angels, thanks for showing up."

I really only have one things to say about our 100 wins, It is inflated and if we played in the AL East we would have to reduce that win total by at least 10 to 15 games because the other teams in our division are all below 500 and the East has four teams about 500. That is a real tell tale sign of what the Angles were really made of, we got beat by a better team yet again and they are moving on and we will be playing golf yet again.

Oh by the way lets get ride of the small ball junk it never works in the playoff, thanks

Lackey sounds like such a loser! Congratulations on the 100 win regular season, but how about not booting the ball on defense, stranding runners and giving up home runs in the late innings, once the playoffs start? The better team won the series. The problem the Angels have is that Lackey is their #1 starter! Lackey is a #3 on most teams. Have some class and give the Sox credit, don't whine about how you're better, even though you lost 3 of 4. One of the reasons the Angels lose to Boston all the time is that guys like Lackey always fail when it matters most (see the meatball to Jason Bay in game 1).

I can't believe Lackey said that. Actually, yes I can. He's a whiner who doesn't realize that being a "good" pitcher during the year means zero in the playoffs. Lester gave up 0 runs in seven, Lackey gave up 2 - simple as that. He got beaten by a better, tougher pitcher who doesn't get rattled as easily. Plus, the "we're the better team" line is such a cliche, and demonstrates a distinct lack of class; often used by a team that gave up too easily. Enjoy the offseason.

Stop the crying Lackey. Yes the Angels won 100 games in the regular season compared to the 95 the Red Sox won. But, and this is a big but, the AL West is a much much much weaker than the AL East. Each home game the Red Sox play has a playoff like atmosphere. Then they also play the Yanks 18 or 19 times a year. That is like a World Series atmosphere. So playing in big games in nothing new for the Sox. The regular season is not a coast ride for them. For the Sox (and now even the Rays who play the Sox and Yanks so many times) there is no real change between regular season and playoffs.
